At Peterson Health we understand the challenges new nurses face. This is why we offer a comprehensive, one-year nurse residency program designed to effectively support new graduate nurses and “back to the bedside” nurses with blended learning, ongoing support, and trained preceptors as they transition into confident professionals.

Nurse Residency Program at a Glance

• 12 monthly sessions of didactic, simulation, discussion, clinical, and professional development
• Designed to facilitate the development of the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required for successful nurses
• Program includes: lectures, simulation, case studies, videos, journaling, research, and a case study presentation

The program consists of 12 monthly sessions of didactic, simulation, discussion, and clinical and professional development, including two sessions focusing on career progression planning. The didactic portion involves lectures, case studies, videos, journaling, research, and case study presentations. Simulation will be used to facilitate knowledge transfer to the acute care arena.

The evidence-based program allows new graduates to grow both clinically and professionally alongside their cohort, fostering the hands-on experience, teamwork, and camaraderie that is the foundation for exceptional patient care.

The curriculum is designed to help develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required for successful nurses of the future. Critical thinking will be enhanced through utilization of the nursing process, communication, socialization, teamwork, and simulation. The resident will feel confident in caring for the medically complex patient across the care continuum. Graduates of the program are able to incorporate evidence-based research into daily practices in order to consistently provide high quality, safe patient care.

The Peterson Health residency program is a paid opportunity that all new graduates are eligible for.

What patients say about Peterson Health

When I called 911 that evening, I honestly prepared myself to not see my dad alive again after that due to how quickly and severely he had fallen sick. After his negative COVID results came back, I walked into his ER room about 30 minutes after we arrived and he was alert (he was even smiling!) and receiving the necessary medications and treatments to help him. Immediately, everyone began helping him as a TEAM between each department quickly and efficiently to ensure my dad was taken care of and comfortable. It's almost like they were Angels bringing him back to me! I knew he was in the very BEST hands! My dad hasn't stopped talking about how greatly his opinion of Peterson hospital has changed after the phenomenal care he's received over the past couple of days. He said everyone is being so helpful and caring, thoughtful, and shows its a TEAM effort! He has so much more respect for PRMC and the staff and is so appreciative of everyone. He didn't stop bragging on how helpful and nice everyone has been to him and our family.
